OverviewThis programme is designed to orientate managers, team leaders/members, HR personnel, frontline staff etc - to offer psychological first aid (PFA) to people following a crisis event. It is to build the capacity of helpers in crisis and post-crisis situations. PFA involves humane, supportive and practical assistance for people who are distressed, in ways that respect their dignity, culture and abilities. The programme provides opportunities for participants to develop and practise PFA skills. A key learning objective is for participants to understand the boundaries of the support they can provide and when to refer people for more specialized assistance.Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an approach first started by World Health Organisation (WHO) and is currently used world-wide. PFA can be learned by both professionals and non‑professionals who are in a position to help people impacted by distressing events.
